KINGSTON, Ont. (June 19, 2013) - Queen's men's hockey head coach Brett Gibson is pleased to announce nine student-athletes who will be joining the Gaels next season.

Goaltenders Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) and Chris Clarke (Halifax, N.S.) who both bring experience from the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) with Clarke playing with the Memorial Cup Champion Halifax Moosehead serving as the teams backup goaltender and finishing the season with a 13-1-1 record while Baille saw time with the London Knights this past season.

"I explored all my options and obviously a lot of schools financially do different things but in my opinion the degree I'm going to get  here will be worth more in the long run anyways compared to short term thinking if you accept that," said Bailie who was introduced to the local media on Tuesday.

"It's close to home and one of the best schools in the country and it's really exciting to see what is going to happen with the hockey program here."

On defence the Gaels sure up their back end with the additions of Patrick Downe (New Maryland, N.B.), Kris Grant (Kingston, Ont.) and Chris Van Laren (Kingston, Ont.). Grant, Downe and Van Laren bring experience from the CHL while Van Laren also played one season in the Atlantic University Sport conference before sitting out a year to join Queen's.

Up front Queen's will be adding Regan Soquila (Maple Ridge, B.C.), Jordan Coccimiglio (Burlington, Ont.), Blair Wentworth (Calgary) and Mike Schugg (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.). Soquila is the younger brother of current Gael Jordan and Schug was the Captain of the Kingston Voyageurs last season. Coccimiglia and Wentworth meanwhile bring experience from the CHL.

See below for a detailed look at these athletes and all they have accomplished in their careers thus far.

"Our coaching staff identified depth at all positions as a glaring weakness at the end of last season. I feel we have addressed that weakness with this years recruiting class and turned it now into a strength," said Coach Gibson.

"Men's Hockey in the OUA with the new crossover schedule, is going to be extremely competitive, we hope with our additions we will be right in the mix again this season."

The Gaels begin their season when they take on the RMC Paladins in the annual Lou Jeffries exhibition game on September 14 at 7 p.m. in Gananoque. Queen's will begin their regular season on the road when they take on the Waterloo Warriors on October 12. The Gaels then open up their home schedule on Friday October 18 against the York Lions at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.

let the season start with a big win next Friday night!
